Mustang Regiment

The Mustang Regiment is East Rowan High School’s spirited and award-winning marching band, proudly representing the school at football games, community events, parades, and field competitions. Composed of around 50–60 students, it serves as the "face" of the East Rowan Bands, showcasing high-energy performances from August through December. The group participates in local and regional competitions—such as the annual Mustang Classic, as well as other North and South Carolina events—and consistently brings home medals and top honors.

Wind Ensemble

The East Rowan Wind Ensemble is the concert band within the East Rowan Bands program. Comprised of wind and percussion students, the ensemble performs high-level repertoire at school concerts, county and state festivals, consistently earning top ratings—often Superior—at events like Music Performance Assessment for the SCDBA. Students enrolled at East Rowan High School have the opportunity to be apart of this ensemble as a course during the school day. Focused on musical precision, expression, and collaboration, this group offers a unique and rewarding experience that prepares students for collegiate-level music performance.

Jazz Band

The East Rowan Jazz Band is an ensemble led by Director Hannah Taylor. It consists of advanced student musicians who perform a variety of jazz styles—from classic swing to contemporary fusion—at school concerts, holiday events, and community showcases. This group focuses on improvisation and jazz expression, providing students with opportunities to develop solo skills and perform in a smaller ensemble. Performances regularly receive high praise from audiences and judges alike, reflecting the band’s musical growth and dedication to excellence.

Winter Percussion

The East Rowan Winter Percussion (also known as indoor percussion) is a competitive ensemble that begins in late fall and runs through spring. It features both marching percussion—like snare, tenor, bass drums, cymbals—and a front ensemble with melodic instruments such as xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, timpani, plus electronic elements like synthesizers and electric guitar. The group performs visually-driven shows inside gyms or auditoriums, blending musicality, choreography, and storytelling consistent with the percussion theater style molded by Winter Guard International (WGI) standards. They rehearse two times a week, auditioning incoming students, and compete in local and regional circuits—like the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association—ending their season at championship events. East Rowan’s Winter Percussion offers students an immersive musical experience that builds technical percussion skills, performance artistry, and ensemble unity in a high-energy, competitive setting.

Winter Guard

The East Rowan Winter Guard is a dynamic, audition-based performance ensemble that brings visual artistry to the East Rowan Bands program. Unique to our other ensembles, Winter Guard utilizes flags, sabers, rifles, and dance to create expressive and dynamic performances. Competing indoors from late fall through spring, their performances weave together color, props, movement, and narrative to tell compelling stories through choreographed routines. Typically competing in Scholastic A/AA classes within the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association and Winter Guard International circuits, the ensemble delivers polished shows that emphasize precision, emotion, and teamwork. Rehearsing two times per week, participants gain experience in leadership, creative expression, and performance under pressure while representing East Rowan at regional events and indoor competitions
